Bright Futures
The brief:
Bright Futures, which helps children and young people with serious illnesses continue their education through tutoring, mentoring, and befriending support, were raising around £300,000 per annum from a variety of sources. They were, however, only able to scratch the surface of the problem, providing vital support to around 2,000 patients each year. Research demonstrated that in 2024 nearly 279,000 young people missed more than 20% of their education due to long-term physical or mental illness. The charity were keen to scale to try and meet the acute demand for their work.

Our approach:
As part of the Breakthrough Programme, Paul devised a new, more compelling case for support for the charity. This laid our their work in a simpler, clearer manner, and outlined their plans for growth over a five-year period. This included the goal of reaching 10,000 children a year, by 2030, with a voluntary income target of £1.2m.

In line with this, Paul devised a new campaign, entitled ’10,000 Futures’, giving the charity the plans and tools to execute this successfully. A key part of this was the recruitment of their campaign board, in partnership with expert search firm, Peridot. The recruitment drive is currently live, with impressive results so far. The charity is in advanced discussions with a successful entrepreneur, a CEO of a global fintech company and a managing director of a major asset management firm.
What they said:
“Paul has taken the time to really understand our organisation, our ambition, and the challenges we’re tackling. His support—both formal and informal—has been thoughtful, strategic, and genuinely impactful.

The Breakthrough Programme has offered ambitious charities like ours, a unique opportunity to think big and unlock our growth potential. The process has brought much greater clarity to our fundraising strategy and enabled us to articulate our ambition in a way that’s tangible and motivating. We now have a shared mission and clear goals that a wide range of supporters and stakeholders can rally behind. It has helped turn our vision into something people can connect with and invest in.

I would wholeheartedly recommend both Paul and the Breakthrough process to other charities.” Joshua Pelled, Chief Executive
