First Give
The brief:
First Give, which works to inspire children’s involvement in charities, through an innovative and impactful process, had made huge progress during its first decade of activity. It had engaged 250,000 children in its work, helping to create the next generation of philanthropists and charity supporters.
However, despite these achievements the charity was reaching only 7% of state secondary school children across its eight target regions in England & Wales. Its impressive and ambitious leadership were keen to scale, and, in particular, to develop a major giving programme to enable it to achieve these goals.

Our approach:
Through the Breakthrough Programme, Paul developed a compelling investment case for support, which highlighted the impact of the charity’s work to date, and outlined their plans for growth. He also developed an accompanying campaign, ‘Route to a Million’ through which the charity aims to have activated the generosity of a million young people by the time of its 20th anniversary in 2034.

With Paul’s support, and that of expert search firm, Peridot, they have also successfully recruiting four members of their campaign board, all senior individuals in banking, private equity and venture capital. Through the Breakthrough Programme, they have also connected with a major international philanthropist, with whom they are in discussion about becoming an ambassador for the charity.
What they said:
“Working with Paul on the Breakthrough Programme has played a huge role in unlocking the ambition and potential at First Give. Throughout the process he has been generous with his deep experience and understanding of the sector. One of the things we most appreciated was how much time he gave to really understanding us, where we've come from and what we are aiming to do.

Nothing has been too much for him and I am personally so grateful to him for the way in which he has recognised and supported our work and our vision so wholeheartedly. I see Paul as a partner, a co-worker and an incredible critical friend to me and the organisation.

As a result of his support, we are currently cultivating relationships with people we might never have been able to reach, who have the cut through to open access to a far wider network, raising our profile and attracting others to our mission.” Isaac Jones, Director
